Congratulations to our 2007 Girls!

Style, intelligence and belief propelled the girls to an appearance in the Eastern Regional Final.

Our 2007 girls capped a wonderful season with a strong performance at the US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional Championships. Four games saw them record three wins, scoring 11 goals and conceding only 2.

Unfortunately, those two goals conceded came in the final, putting an end to an incredible season for the girls.

"The growth this year has been tremendous," said Coach Yon Struble. "But this is not a one year deal, the core of this group has been together for 5-7 years now. Their play is a testament to their commitment to our process at Arsenal."

"What was amazing about their run to the Regional Championship this year was the fact that one year ago they went 0-3 in regional play."

Overall, the year was tough. The girls didn’t win a lot of games but we were just as good as any of their opponents. Anyone watching could see the growth technically and tactically.

"Despite drawing most of their conference and showcase games or losing tight games 1-0 or 2-1, they never wavered in our style of play," Coach Yon recalls. "Each game they focused on what they were being taught in training and implementing it into their play. It didn’t always work the first time, there were many questions, but over time, it paid off."

Heading into regionals, the staff knew the girls were playing their best soccer and peaking at the right time.

“In league play this spring, we only scored 4 goals. Between the state cup final and the five games played at regionals in West Virginia, we scored 17 goals!"

All of the opponents were quality, but the girls played intelligently and focused the style of play, not the win.

"This was crucial because in our third group play game we had zero substitutes and in the semi final and final, just one sub," Coach Yon said. "Had we changed our style, we wouldn’t have made it to the final."

The girls focused on possession, building out of the back, and being patient with the final ball. They took advantage of what the opposition gave them and scored some fantastic goals!

"It was an incredible run, I couldn’t be happier for the girls," Coach Yon concludes. "They earned everything they achieved in WV under difficult circumstances. In one weekend, they have set a new bar for themselves and have paved the way to their soccer future."

"I’m incredibly excited to them back together this November and take on the next challenge: competing in the newly formed Elite 64!"
